After much wait, we finally have some ladies to join our men (squash ladies, and squash men that is…) My fears and anxiety that all of our squash plants were some how all male have begun to subside. As I was walking through our lovely squash patch pulling a couple weeds and admiring the lovely plants I saw it! I was a bit dumbfounded at first but my initial shock quickly turned to gleeful and excitement. There it was, in all of its jaw dropping glory! Our very first baby squash!
Upon seeing this first squash I began to investigate each plant more closely and started to notice many other female buds just waiting to bloom, and a couple of others that had already flowered. It seems that the female buds are growing not on the first, main vine of each plant but along the later branches. It’s all very interesting stuff. It’s really happening though!
